2/5 Malaga, Costa del Sol, Spain
Malaga is the classic on the Costa del Sol, the place that is one of the most popular destinations for sun worshippers in summer. But the city is also beautiful in the cooler winter months and, above all, much emptier. The famous artist Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga – but the Museo Picasso is not the only fascinating museum in the city. The Centre Pompidou, CAC Malaga, Museo Carmen Thyssen (the sister museum of the Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid) and more than 20 other impressive buildings are evidence of the fact that millions have been invested in culture in the city of Malaga over the past decades.
The extensive beaches are real oases of peace in winter and the sea is often still a good temperature for at least a quick swim. Anyone who doubts that Andalusian cuisine is authentic in the city will quickly be proven wrong. Malaga is the culinary capital of the Costa del Sol and even the most exclusive restaurants look forward to having children at their tables.
Temperatures November to February: 18°C to 20°C.
